Grange Over Sands Hidden gem

Updated: Apr 18, 2024

Well, that was a revelation, our favourite cafe had closed, so we went in search of a new one. Our back up cafe, basic but good none the less was also closed. So, after a short stroll we stumbled upon what I can only describe as a unique cafe in the heart of Grange.

The Cafe has a low profile, the owner deliberately keeps it that way, to ensure a very personal service.

She doesn't even have a menu, just tells you what she has made for that day.

So I had a beautiful coffee, freshly ground coffee beans and made barista style. for food, on offer were two soups, Mushroom and garlic or Parsnip, neither are to my liking, so I opted for a sandwich, not just a sandwich it turned out to be epic. Home cooked ham, not a couple of slices, oh no, this was about an inch thick. Inside a breadcake/roll/barm or whatever you call it, top half, a lovely white bread, the bottom was tomato bread. Alongside this was a small salad, freshly made with a lovely dressing. And there's more, homemade of course, an apple source, apples from the orchard across the road and a sublime chutney. All delish!

My wife opted for a fruit tea and the Parsnip soup, but this was not just soup and a roll, oh no, for alongside came a breadbasket. Filled with different breads, homemade cheese sticks and crackers, more than enough for two to share, even though I had my own food....

Eye Wateringly Good - Rating: a pouring eye, the best it could get.
